Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yep. Every feature is free, there are no ads, and nothing is locked behind a paywall. I build it on my own as a passion project. If it’s useful to you, there’s a support page where you can chip in, but donating doesn’t unlock anything extra.
Do I need an account?
Nope. Your characters save in your browser as you go, so you can build and play without signing up. Browsers can clear what a site saves (Safari does after 7 days without a visit), so download a backup now and then, or sign in with a one-time code sent to your email (no password to remember): up to seven characters, plus your encounters, homebrew and DM table, are then saved online and open on any device.
Which books are included?
Along with the Player’s Handbook, you get character options from the expansion and setting books, like Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. That adds up to 143 races, 509 spells, 110 feats and 96 backgrounds. The supported books page lists every one.
Is this a free alternative to D&D Beyond?
For players, pretty much. You get a builder that walks you through making a character and a digital sheet you play from, with spell slots, hit points, rests and dice. The big differences are that you don’t pay extra for the expansion books and there are no ads.
Can I use it at the table?
That’s what it’s made for. When you cast a spell, the sheet spends the slot, scales it if you upcast and rolls the dice for you. Hit points are a tap away, and it keeps track of temporary hit points, death saves, conditions, exhaustion, inspiration, hit dice and short and long rests. Your inventory tracks weight, attunement and coins too.
Can I add homebrew?
Yes. Open the homebrew editor to make your own races, feats, spells, backgrounds, items and magic items. They show up in the builder and on your sheet just like official content. There's a class builder too: whole classes and subclasses, with as many levels as you like, spellcasting, and features that grant feats, spells, actions and bonuses.
Does it do multiclassing and leveling up?
It does. Level up from your sheet and you get the new features, hit points and spell slots, including multiclass spellcasting and warlock Pact Magic. If your table plays by its own rules for leveling, hit points, feats or multiclassing, you can set those in the Game modifiers step.
Can I share or move a character?
Sure. You can send anyone a read-only link to a character, or export it as a one-time code and import it on another device. There are no files to download, and any homebrew the character uses goes along with it.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on your phone, tablet or computer, and there’s nothing to install.
