D&D 5e conditions

A condition changes what a creature can do: it might stop it moving, give attackers advantage or end its concentration. Each page has the 2014 (SRD 5.1) and 2024 (SRD 5.2) wording side by side.

How conditions work

Conditions come from spells, monster attacks, traps and the environment, and each lasts until something ends it: the effect that caused it runs out, a saving throw succeeds, or another rule (a spell like Lesser Restoration, a long rest for exhaustion) removes it. Being affected by the same condition twice doesn’t double it; exhaustion is the exception, because it stacks in levels.

Several conditions include another. In both editions paralyzed, petrified, stunned and unconscious creatures are also incapacitated, and an unconscious creature falls prone. In the 2024 rules that nesting matters more, because Incapacitated itself grew: it now removes Bonus Actions, breaks Concentration and stops speech, so everything that includes it does the same.
