Your spell bolsters your allies with toughness and resolve. Choose up to three creatures within range. Each target's hit point maximum and current hit points increase by 5 for the duration.
At higher levels
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, a target's hit points increase by an additional 5 for each slot level above 2nd.

How Aid plays
Choose up to three creatures within 30 feet, yourself included. For 8 hours, each one’s hit point maximum goes up by 5, and so do its current hit points. Each slot level above 2nd adds another 5.
It’s real hit points, not temporary ones. That means it stacks with temporary hit points, it isn’t lost first, and a creature that’s later healed can be healed up to the new maximum. Cast it in the morning and three party members spend the whole day 5 hit points tougher, which is a lot at low levels.
When to pick Aid
Clerics and paladins with a spare 2nd-level slot should cast it at the start of the adventuring day. Eight hours covers most sessions.
Upcast it with leftover slots. At higher levels, casting it with a 4th- or 5th-level slot you didn’t use gives three characters +15 or +20 hit points for the day.
Use it as emergency healing. Because it raises current hit points, it can get a downed ally back up in a pinch, and pick up three at once.
Common questions
Is Aid temporary hit points?
No. It raises the hit point maximum and current hit points, so it stacks with temporary hit points from spells like False Life and Heroism.
Can Aid revive a creature at 0 hit points?
Yes. Its current hit points go up by 5, so a creature at 0 wakes up with 5 hit points, or more if you upcast it.
Can I cast Aid on myself?
Yes. You choose up to three creatures within range, and you can be one of them.
Does Aid stack if I cast it twice?
No. The effects of the same spell don’t combine, so a creature only gets the bonus from the strongest casting. Choose three different creatures instead.
What happens when Aid ends?
The creature’s hit point maximum drops back to normal. If its current hit points are higher than its new maximum, they drop to the maximum; otherwise nothing changes.
Did the 2024 rules change Aid?
The effect is the same, but more classes can use it: in the 2024 Player’s Handbook bards, druids and rangers get it as well as clerics and paladins.
