Ring, rare (requires attunement) · 2024 version below
You gain a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws while wearing this ring.
While you wear it, you have +1 to Armor Class and +1 to every saving throw. It’s always on, with no charges and no actions, and it works with any armor, any shield or no armor at all.
It’s a rare item that requires attunement. The bonus sounds modest, but it applies to every attack against you and every save you make for the rest of the campaign, and saves are what stand between a character and being paralyzed, charmed or turned to stone.
Yes. They’re different items, so wearing both gives +2 AC and +2 to saves, at the cost of two attunement slots.
They don’t stack. Under the rule for combining game effects, when two effects have the same name only one applies, so a second ring adds nothing.
Yes. Unlike Bracers of Defense, it has no restrictions.
Yes. Concentration checks are Constitution saving throws, so the +1 applies.
It’s rare. The Dungeon Master’s Guide puts rare items at 501 to 5,000 gp.
It helps saves as well as AC, and it works on top of any armor. +1 armor is also rare, but needs no attunement, and only improves AC.
| Item | How it compares |
|---|---|
| Cloak of Protection | Uncommon: the same +1 to AC and saves in a cloak. Wear both if you can spare the attunement. |
| Armor, +1 | Rare: +1 AC on your armor, no attunement, no bonus to saves. |
| Stone of Good Luck | Uncommon: +1 to ability checks and saves instead of AC. |
| Bracers of Defense | Rare: +2 AC, only with no armor and no shield. |
| Ring of Evasion | Rare: spend a charge to turn a failed Dexterity save into a success, three charges that partly recharge each day. |
| Ioun Stone of Protection | Rare: +1 AC while it orbits your head, and it also needs attunement. |
