How class spell lists work
A spell is only available to your character if it’s on your class’s list, even when another class can cast it. Wizards, clerics and druids have the longest lists and reach 9th-level spells, as do bards, sorcerers and warlocks. Paladins and rangers are half casters: their lists stop at 5th level and have no cantrips.
Some features let you step outside your list. A bard’s Magical Secrets and a few subclasses add spells from other classes, and those count as spells of your class for you. Multiclass characters use each class’s list separately for the spells they learn or prepare, but combine their caster levels into one pool of spell slots (a warlock’s Pact Magic slots stay separate).
These lists cover the openly licensed SRD 5.1 spells. The builder’s Spells step includes 509 spells from the Player’s Handbook and expansions, and only offers the ones your class and level can take.
