How Mass Cure Wounds plays

Pick a point within 60 feet, then choose up to six creatures within 30 feet of it. Each one regains 3d8 plus your spellcasting modifier in hit points. With a +4 modifier that’s about 17 hit points each, or roughly 100 across a party of six, from one action. Undead and constructs get nothing.

It’s the first spell that heals a whole party by a meaningful amount in the middle of a fight. The 30-foot radius is big enough to catch a scattered group, so you rarely need to move to use it.

When to pick Mass Cure Wounds

Common questions

How much does Mass Cure Wounds heal?

3d8 plus your spellcasting modifier to each of up to six creatures: about 13.5 plus your modifier each. Each slot level above 5th adds 1d8 to every target.

Can I heal myself with Mass Cure Wounds?

Yes, if you’re within 30 feet of the point you choose. You’re one of the six creatures.

Does it wake up allies at 0 hit points?

Yes. Any healing brings a creature at 0 hit points back to consciousness.

Do I roll once or separately for each target?

The spell doesn’t say. Most tables roll once and apply the total to everyone, which is quicker; rolling separately gives the same average.

Does it heal undead or constructs?

No, it has no effect on either.

Is Mass Cure Wounds better than Mass Healing Word?

It heals far more, about 17 against about 7 per target with a +4 modifier, but it takes your action and a 5th-level slot. Mass Healing Word is a 3rd-level bonus action; use it to pick up several downed allies, and Mass Cure Wounds when everyone is badly hurt but still standing.
